GLENN HUGHES Is 'Happy To Let The Incredible Legacy Of PURPLE Mk III Remain Intact'

April 10, 2007

Legendary vocalist/bassist Glenn Hughes (ex-DEEP PURPLE, BLACK SABBATH) has issued a statement in response to a recent online posting by WHITESNAKE/ex-DEEP PURPLE frontman David Coverdale indicating that Coverdale "[has] not agreed in any way, shape or form, to a reformation of DEEP PURPLE Mark III." David added that "the only consideration would be my willingness to be involved in a 'one-off' charity show which would feature all surviving members of DEEP PURPLE."

Stated Hughes: "As I have been the one that is consistantly being bombarded with the same question over and over again, my answer has always been that there are five members and that at no time have we had a band discussion about a reunion. Yes, David and I flirted with the idea 18 months ago, and since then my brother has fully comitted himself to his love and nurturing of his beloved WHITESNAKE.

"For all Glenn Hughes followers, you can all see that my solo career has gone to another level, playing to more people around the world — the popularity and the demand for my activity has risen.... David's recent statement has finally put this rumour to bed.... Although I would have loved to have seen it happen under the right circumstances, I'm just as happy to let the incredible legacy of the mighty MKIII remain intact."
